How can I transfer or register a domain
name?
Golemweb recommends
the use of Golemweb services for domain registration/transfer. You
can transfer your domain by visiting www.golemweb.com (or the web site where you
register your domain names) or you can have Golemweb transfer your
domain. If you opt to
transfer yourself, you will need the following

When will I know that
my domain is approved & active?
You will receive
confirmation of the order via email from Golemweb after a
domain registration or transfer. After email confirmation, it
can take anywhere from 2-7 days before the domain becomes active or
changes take effect.
How do I check on the
availability of a domain name?
See www.golemweb.com to check on domain name
availability or purchasing a domain name. There are many additional
sources for checking availability and purchasing.
Can I change my domain
name?
A domain name cannot be
"changed". In order to change a domain name, you must register and
pay for a new domain name.
This will have no affect on your original domain name.
-How long does it take to transfer a domain
name?
The process of filling
out the form to transfer a domain name is quick and easy. The entire process of domain
transfer (zone updates plus Internet propagation) usually takes
between 3 and 7 days.
How do I upload my files on the Web
Server?
You will need FTP
Software to upload your files to our server. Popular FTP Software
includes "WS_FTP Pro" and "Cute FTP" can be found at http://www.download.com/.
What FTP Software do
you suggest?
We do not recommend a
specific FTP application for use. You can review some of the
more popular packages at http://www.download.com/.
What name should I use
for my "homepage" to get it to load
automatically?
default.htm is the
default name for a "homepage".
You can also use index.htm, index.html, or default.asp.
What can my file names
be?
File names can be any
name up to 254 characters in length (including spaces). Special symbols are not
allowed. We recommend using all lower case with no spaces in
your file names.
How do I create
sub-directories within my Website?
You can create specific
sub-directories using FTP programs. All accounts come with the
necessary permissions to create and remove subdirectories.
Can Golemweb still
host my web site if another company is hosting my domain
name?
Golemweb recommends
that our customers use our hosting services for e-mail, web, and
domain if all three services will be used. However, if you have some
obligation to another hosting company or you do not choose to use
our domain hosting for other reasons, we still can host your web
site. In this case, it is important that whoever is hosting your
domain point your DNS records for your web site to our web
server.
Who can move my web
site files to Golemweb's Web Server if I transfer my
domain?
You, your Web Developer,
or we can transfer all of your files.
Where do I register
with search engines?
Most search engine sites
allow web site registration on their web sites. There are also numerous
Search Engine Submittal sites available on the Internet. We can
register your site for you for a nominal fee. You can use our
sign-up form to purchase that feature.
What software are your
web servers running?
We run a variety of
server software. Our
servers are running Windows NT 4.0.

What is a Secure Web
Server and How Do I Secure My Web Site Transactions?
A Secure Server allows
secure online transactions.
Selling merchandise online or processing payments via credit
card are types of transactions that require a Secure Server. You will need to make a
request to Golemweb for a Secure Transactions Account.
This typically costs an additional $10/month.
May I have two or more
domain names point at the same web
site?
Yes. Many customers will order
yourname.com along with yourname.org and yourname.net. You can then point all of
the web sites to yourname.com and just maintain the one web
site. In order to point
these domain names, you will need to contact Golemweb Technical
Assistance Center or e-mail support@golemweb.com to make the changes.
How do I find the IP
address of my site?
We incorporate virtual
hosting for our web sites.
You do not have a unique IP address for your web site. You can find out which
shared IP your domain is using by using the PING command (from a
Windows computer). Go
to a MS DOS Prompt/Command Prompt and type:
ping www.yourdomain.com
(where yourdomain is your domain name). Click “Enter”. You’ll then see the IP
address of the web server.
